Upper Key Stage 2
Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5 and Year 6)
In upper Key Stage Two, pupils are taught through a theme based approach. Teachers create lessons that incorporate each curriculum subject -Science, History, Geography, Computing, Art and Design, Music and R.E into a theme that aims to submerse and engage the children in their learning. English is taught as part of the theme through the use of high quality texts. Children have separate lessons for P.E and SMSC. Maths is taught following the White Rose document which encourages the children to develop fluency in their maths learning which they can then apply to problem solving scenarios; helping them to develop their mathematical thinking. At Stanstead we aim to help children to engage in their learning, providing them with opportunities to develop their own creativity and enthusiasm. We encourage the children to develop a growth mind-set with regards to their learning; helping them to see that their learning is a journey where making mistakes is ok as we are all constantly learning and improving.
