Summer 2022
How can you make a legacy last a lifetime?
This term's enquiry question will allow our children to reflect on the impact they have had on others and to think about the legacy they would like to leave behind as they leave Stanstead Primary School as well as their future legacies.
Art is our driver subject and we will consider the legacies different artists have left. We will be creating digital art in the style of Stephen McMennamy and developing our art skills using 2D and 3D media.
History will enhance our enquiry as we consider the legacy of the Ancient Maya in modern day Central America.
Spring 2022
Do borders keep us safe?
This term we will be exploring our enquiry question through learning about the plight of the refugee in different countries and also comparing life in China and India. We will be enhancing our understanding of this through reading our class texts 'My name is not refugee' and 'The Unforgotten Coat'.
In Geography we'll be learning about time zones, improving our map skills in terms of being able to locate countries and learning about movement of people from place to place.
In D&T we'll be learning how to pin and sew material as well as exploring sweet and savoury dishes from different parts of the world.
Autumn 2021
Is conflict ever justified?
This term we will be exploring our enquiry question through learning about World Wars 1 and 2 as well as looking at present day conflict. We will be combining this with reading our class texts ‘Line of Fire: Diary of an Unknown Soldier’ and ‘Once.’
In history, we will be learning about key events and people during WW1 and WW2 such as the Battle of Britain, the Holocaust and The Battle of Dunkirk. We will also consider the impact this conflict had on everybody involved, including children.
In geography, we will be learning about the importance of trade links between different countries and the importance of industrial areas and ports. We will also learn about the distribution of natural resources such as food, water, energy and minerals.
In D&T, after drawing detailed 3D designs of a house, we will be selecting and using the correct tools to build it. Black-out curtains will be essential if it has any chance of surviving the Blitz later in the term!
