In EYFS, we focus on the Characteristics of Effective Learning, which underpin children’s engagement, curiosity, and motivation across all areas of their development. These characteristics—playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically—help children become confident, independent learners who are able to take initiative, persist with challenges, and think creatively. We support the development of these skills through a wide range of opportunities that encourage exploration, problem-solving, decision-making, and reflective thinking.
