Transcriptional Fluency

In EYFS, we place a strong emphasis on developing transcriptional fluency, as it forms the foundation for confident, independent writing. At this stage, children are learning how to physically record their ideas, so building accuracy, speed, and confidence in forming letters and words is essential. We support this through a range of carefully planned activities and routines that help children strengthen fine-motor skills, practise correct letter formation, develop phonics knowledge, and apply these skills in meaningful writing opportunities. Below are some of the ways we nurture and embed transcriptional fluency across our provision.
