TEN city schools are to be recognised for their efforts during this year's Summer Reading Challenge.
The schools are invited to the Council House on Wednesday, where certificates will be handed out to staff and pupils.
To receive certificates, the schools had to have ten per cent or more of their pupils who completed the summer reading challenge at a city library.
The schools are Welbeck Primary in The Meadows; Fernwood Infants and Fernwood Junior in Wollaton; Middleton Primary in Wollaton; Melbury Primary in Strelley; Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Primary in Bulwell; Greenfields Community School and Foundation Unit in The Meadows; Riverside Primary in The Meadows; Brocklewood Junior in Broxtowe; and Stanstead Primary in Top Valley. Welbeck School achieved the highest participation rate with 21.6 per cent of students completing the reading challenge at their local library.
Councillor David Mellen, portfolio holder for children's services at the city council, said: "We welcome the support schools have given towards campaigns such as the Summer Reading Challenge. Our ambition to improve literacy among children can only be realised through working together."
