English

Every child has weekly spellings which will be given to them every Monday in their Spelling Books which will be sent home for them to practise.

Please could you make sure that your child understands the meaning of the words as well as practising their spelling.

Maths

We are currently having a big push on mental maths skills and it would be beneficial for your child if you could spend some time on  the following, at the same time making it fun.

  • Times tables 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 (also 8 and 9 if your child feels confident).  Ideally the children should be able to chant the full table, but also remember them out of order quickly, i.e. 6 x 6 = 36, 5 x 9 = 45, 4 x 8 = 32, etc. etc.
  • Counting in 10s, 100s, and 1000s from different starting points.
  • Number bonds to 10 and 100 - eg. 7 + 3 = 10   therefore  70 + 30 = 100
  • Doubles to 20, e.g. 5 + 5 = 10   7 + 7 = 14, etc. etc.
