BIGTOP BAND - Following the very successful BigTop Big Band day on 17th October the BigTop Band's first session will be held on TUESDAY 4th NOVEMBER at 4:00pm at Glade Hill School.  The band is open to children in the area who have either been part of the schools wider opportunities programme or are involved in music either in school or at home.  The age range for the band is currently youngsters in years 5 and up, however it is hoped that if the success continues this age range can be lowered to those in years 3 and 4.  Anyone interested in joining needs to just turn up on 4th November at Glade Hill with their instrument.  We look forward to see you there.

The Big Turn On 2008 ! - Area 2 Neighbourhood Team have put forward funds to provide Bestwood with more Christmas lights and a special festival on 3rd December to switch them on and start the festive season.  The children from all schools in the area will be involved by taking part in a Christmas Latern Parade from 4:00pm to 5:00pm from Bestwood Park Community Centre to Bestwood Church grounds prior to the lights being switched on at 5:00pm.  A choir consisting of pupils from both Top Valley and Big Wood schools will then sing carols accompanied by a band before Father Christmas gets busy handing out gifts to those taking part.  A great start to the festive season for Bestwood, Top Valley, Rise Park and Warren Hill areas and their families.  Come along and join the fun on Wednesday 3rd December from 4:00pm at Bestwood shops (next to Southglade School on Beckhampton Road).

University Trip - Children from year 6 from local primary schools, were taken to Nottingham Trent University on Wednesday 15th and 22nd October to sample University life.  The trip was organised by BigTop Education Improvement Partnership, BigTop Extended Schools and CELS (Centre for Effective Learning in Science). Although university seems a long way off at the age of 11, the hope is that this will not only raise childrens aspirations to continue into further and higher education but also help parents to understand the next step beyond school and support their children with whatever they decide.

BigTop Band Day - Children from schools within the area joined together at Top Valley Community Centre on Friday 17th October to launch the BigTop Band.  The band will draw youngsters from all schools within the area to practice each week at Glade Hill School 4:00 - 5:00pm every Tuesday.  The band will take part in performances within the area and also within the City highlighting the talent of our local youngsters.
